CSV Imports

Bulk-import your existing contacts and IP matters from CSV files. Download a template to see the expected format, then upload your data.

Import Types

Two import types are available:

  • Contacts — import people and companies into your contact directory.
  • Matters — import IP matters, linking them to existing contacts and workflows.

Import contacts first

If your matters reference contacts (e.g. by email address), import your contacts before importing matters. The matter import will look up and link to existing contacts automatically.

Downloading Templates

Before preparing your data, download the CSV template for the import type you need. The template includes all available columns with their expected headers.

Navigate to Imports, select the tab (Contacts or Matters), and click Download template.

Preparing Your CSV

When preparing your CSV file:

  • Use the column headers from the template exactly as shown.
  • Save as UTF-8 encoded CSV (most spreadsheet apps support this).
  • Maximum file size: 20 MB.
  • Dates should be in a recognisable format (the importer handles common formats like YYYY-MM-DD, DD/MM/YYYY, MM/DD/YYYY, etc.).

Re-importing

If you import matters that already exist (matched by application number), the import will update the existing records rather than create duplicates. This is useful for bulk updates.

Uploading & Processing

1

Upload your file

Drag and drop your CSV onto the upload area, or click to browse. The upload begins immediately.
2

Monitor progress

After uploading, you are redirected to the progress page. This shows the number of rows processed, imported successfully, and any failures — updating in real time.
3

Review errors

If any rows fail, the error details are shown with line numbers and error messages. You can fix these in your CSV and re-import.

Import History

The Imports page shows your 20 most recent imports with their status (completed, completed with errors, failed), row counts, and timestamps. Click any import to review its progress and error details.
